Examining the Role Teachers Play in Education

Many people today are asking exactly how critical the teacher's role is in the education of today's children. Most parents rely very heavily on the teachers that are in charge of their children each day when it comes to educating them and take a comparatively hands off role compared to the past. In today's institutions of learning, a great deal of pride is taken in the ability of teachers to convey core concepts to students while they are young. Schools want to hire the best possible teachers and do their best to recruit these individuals. Therefore, they serve a very strong role in the sector of education as a whole, being central to the school systems in which they work. This has led many to now question this level of responsibility.

In previous eras, schools were places of learning and teachers did their jobs, but still parents were expected to do a certain amount of work with the children. It seems that now this balance is shifting as parents focus on the teachers educating the children rather than themselves, a strange condition considering the level of higher education that a growing number of parents today possess. The teacher's role has become heavier as their salaries have decreased, causing a number of education experts to vocally question this trend, especially in the United States where teachers serve much larger class rooms and get far lower pay than in many other careers.

Teachers today are also allowed a great deal of flexibility in curriculum, thanks largely to the shifting size of classes that seem to hinge on school budgets. These budgets shift dramatically from time to time, shrinking and expanding the resources at hand to teach students. This leaves many people wondering what the future of teaching may be and whether or not the career will remain as desirable in the future.
